  • 3. Article Exchange How to Prepare for ‘Crossroads’ Situations Financial executives play a major role in influencing a company’s strategy. It’s often the job of CFOs to weigh the pros and cons of M&A deals that could benefit the company and create value for shareholders. The Four Leadership Personas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution—Which one are You? A Deloitte Global report, based on a survey of 2,000 C-suite executives in 19 countries, found four types of leaders achieving success in Industry 4.0: Social Supers, Data-driven Decisives, Disruption Drivers and Talent Champions. Americans’ Personal Financial Satisfaction dips in Fourth Quarter In the last quarter of 2018, the AICPA’s Personal Financial Satisfaction Index (PFSi) took a downward turn for the first time in two years. The PFSi dropped by 1.4 points (4.4%), largely due to a downturn in the stock market. Why Risk Management Should Be a Higher Priority Companies today are exposed to an ever-more-complex array of risks and uncertainties, which are only set to accelerate in the years to come. The kinds of multi-factor decisions involved will be increasingly familiar to CFOs in the future. The #1 Tip of Successful Investing “Nothing inspires financial progress more effectively than when we align our money and our mission. Money is simply a tool that we use to accomplish meaningful things in our lives”, John Hagensen - Keystone Wealth Partners. North American CFOs’ Optimism falls Sharply Deloitte survey indicates the euphoria of the first quarter of 2018 has diminished, mainly because of concern about a lack of trade clarity.
  • 4. Latin America Update The Future of Capital Markets in Latin America The outlook for the markets in Latin America looks strong for 2019. Investors are finding numerous business opportunities in many countries in Latin America. With increased cross- border deals that involve secure corporate bonds, project finance, syndicated loans and bilateral loans, companies will need a local partner to help with these transactions. The 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index: A Frustrating Lack of Progress in the Americas Two weeks ago, Transparency International released the 2018 edition of its annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). The good news? Under current administrations, certain countries in the Americas have made significant improvement in perceptions of public sector corruption. The bad news? The average situation in the region is so dire that these minor steps in the right direction are unlikely to get any attention. A Brief History of U.S.-led Regime Change in Latin America Last month, the U.S. recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the “interim president” of Venezuela. Since then, Canada, the European Union, and a slew of other countries have followed America’s lead. The move is another sign of the return to Cold War-era U.S. policy in Latin America under President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Today, using records from the Central Intelligence Agency archives, we’ll take a brief look back at the last half-century of U.S. involvement in the region. Carlos Slim’s America Movil Looks to Invest $8.5 Billion in Latin America this Year América Móvil general director Daniel Hajj has announced that Carlos Slim’s Mexican conglomerate plans to invest $8.5 billion in Latin American in 2019, focusing primarily on fiber-optic infrastructure and updated mobile technologies such as 4.5G and 5gG. According to Hajj, the company’s experience in other Latin American countries is cause for confidence. Fintech Is Transforming Latin America’s Financial Sector. Here’s How. The financial landscape of Latin America is such a challenging, complex system that most other world regions haven’t even tried to set foot in the area—until now. Venture capital fintech startups and even traditional banks are starting to take advantage of the incredible growth opportunities in the region. Over the past few years, fintech investments have reached record levels, with almost $600 million raised in 2017 alone. How to Understand Mexico's Lonely Stance on Venezuela The humanitarian crisis taking place in Venezuela is unparalleled in Latin America and perhaps the world. Clinging to power, President Nicolás Maduro has undermined freedoms, bullied and imprisoned his opponents, and sent millions of Venezuelans into exile or in search of political asylum. He and his regime have become more isolated from the international community by the day. But there is some confusion as to what role Mexico should play in this crisis.
