Theinterplay of client orders, personnel, avail-able storage area, materials and ware-house technology is supported in mostcases by a warehouse management sys-tem.The market for warehouse managementsystems tends to have a high level of ma-turity due to the modular construction ofthe systems that can be parameterisedbased on client needs and expanded ondemand. But are the needs of users met by thewarehouse management systems avail-able on the market? The current requirements of intralogisticsusers were documented in a separate sur-vey. In order to estimate upcoming de-mands, the results of this survey werecompared with the results of the annualWMS study.To differentiate the potential that arisesfrom these demands for the users, the fol-lowing user types are used in the WMSMarket Survey:    Users that are satisfied with their cur-rent WMS    Users who are considering a newsystem or replacing the old system Developments in the WMS market The global economic crisis also affectedthe logistics branch. While some compa-nies partially froze large investment plans,a few others used the chance of economi-cally investing. It was on the whole quiteclear that business was very quiet. Thesituation changed markedly in the first halfof 2010. Business activity is once againincreasing and the accumulated backlogdemand has to be reduced again.The WMS market was particularly affectedby the crisis. According to a study pub-lished in mid-2010 by the ARC AdvisoryGroup, the global recession shrank theWMS market in 2009 by the growth of thelast five years. The global WMS market in2005 was thus larger than in 2009. It willtake many years to recover this deficit.The first new planning activities in logisticswere begun in the first half of 2010. Theascent in logistics has also been seen inWMS suppliers: The demand to implementwarehouse management systems in-creased in late 2010 so strongly that somecompanies had reached their capacity limitup to the first half of 2011 and thus had todecline requests for projects to be realisedin early 2011.
